SNAILHUNTr – A History of Origin of the Spiral
They come from the heavily forested rocky hills of Northwest Arkansas and the river valley where the sun shines brighter and water doth spring forth of it's own accord.
Origin of the Spiral was first conceived as a panoramic audio quest which was to support a collection of poems by W. Clayton Scott. Scott produced the poetry somewhere around 98 or 99 and Matt Depper began sketching sonic ideas provoked by Clayton's words. It was very ambient and free-flowing, lacking any traditional rock elements. Over time, it evolved. The big revolution happened when Matt Putman took a break from his busy touring schedule to visit depper and played drums on "Somehow Divine Calculus." This began a major change in the sound and concept with many songs going through drastic changes before completion. From then on Putman would visit during his time off and record drums with or without music. The drums in "Groaning" were actually created first and the music written around what Putman played.
Finally, in the Winter of 2000, Depper and Putman were finished creating. They decided to take a name for themselves and decided it would be SnailhuntR, a creature manifested from depper’s imagination a few years prior. Depper and Putman have continued to write new music and their own lyrics as SnailhuntR. Scott has earned his own place in national competitions as well as speaking in schools where he leads workshops on creative writing and involves students in "slam" or performance poetry contests.
SnailhuntR has put together an ensemble of healthy servants and fertile insects to aid them in their live show. Maybe you'll spot them in your area handing out rotten bread and stale fish, fresh from the bible belt.
